Climate Dome

January 2007- March 2008

The Climate Dome was a spectacular interactive exhibit, aimed at people in the Northeast who were less aware of the significance of climate change - the majority of the region’s population, in fact. A £440k project, the dome brought together five sponsors and partners, including DEFRA, the Centre for Life, the Energy Saving Trust, Newcastle City Council and Scottish Power.

The six-metre, inflatable dome balanced fun, curiosity and authority, and featured an attractively designed and lit interior, displays, exhibits, animations and press button games. A science expert and energy efficiency advisors were on hand at all times to answer questions and sign people up to home energy checks. A ‘pledge’ system encouraged visitors to sign up to simple measures to save energy.

The Climate Dome toured high footfall venues in the North East for 15 months from January 2007- March 2008, including shopping centres, festivals, fairs, schools and city centres.

An estimated 75,000 people interacted personally with the Climate Dome over the period, and millions more were reached through media coverage. It was accompanied by a film, an online game and giveaways.
